Inspired by the angelica plant, common to Cognac, this cocktail is crafted with GREY GOOSE® Le Citron Flavored Vodka, white grapefruit juice, angelica syrup, elderflower liqueur and an egg white.

Angelica Syrup Ingredients

1 1/3 cups Angelica root powder
30 pieces Star Anise
3 1/2 cups Caster sugar
2 cups water

Preparation

  1. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously.
  2. Strain into a delmonico glass, and present with lemon zest.
Angelica Syrup Preparation
  1. To create angelica syrup, add 1 1/3 cups angelica root powder, 30 pieces star anise, 3 1/3 cups caster sugar and 2 cups water to a saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil.
  3. Lower temperature, and reduce the liquid for 15 minutes.
  4. Strain.
Tips

Created to stimulate the palate, this cocktail was designed to be light with a complex finish, so it pairs well with fish and dishes with light citrus seasoning. At the 2009 Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, it was served alongside a star anise-cured salmon pop with truffle caviar.
