From crop to cork, the making of GREY GOOSE® Vodka is a process of craft, which begins with Picardie wheat and never once steps outside of France. Made from the best of the natural world, GREY GOOSE® Vodka requires only a single distillation, allowing the character of its premium ingredients to shine through. The result is quintessential vodka — meticulously crafted, characteristically smooth and remarkably tasteful.
It all starts with the finest ingredients — and only two of them. We use the best ingredients in distinctive regions and terroirs of France, the gastronomic capital of the world.
We use the same single-origin, 100% GMO-free wheat that is used in the most exquisite French pastries. It’s grown under perfect conditions in Picardie, a region known as “the breadbasket of France'' for its fields of high-quality wheat. In France, wheat is even classified and protected by law, and we only use the highest standard wheat, which is called blé panifiable superieur. In Picardie, a natural balance between the soil and the climate makes it the perfect location for growing soft winter wheat. Ever since we began production, we have worked with the same three farming co-operatives who are dedicated to managing the terroir.
We use pure limestone-filtered spring water from our own well in Gensac-la-Pallue, collected fresh at the source from a natural aquifer 500 feet beneath our blending facility in the Cognac region. Since the 17th century, the finest spirits in France have been made in Cognac because of the purity of the water. Like the wheat, the spring water is protected by the French government. It’s subject to a European Union Conservation Order protecting the environment that contributes to the unique purity of the water.
Our process is 100% traceable from our farmer partnerships, through milling, mashing, fermentation, distillation, blending with spring water and final bottling.
The French wheat harvest occurs just once a year – in late July/early August – and is overseen by the farming co-operatives.
We mill our own whole wheat grain on-site at the distillery to ensure we capture its rich, full flavor and freshness.
Once milled, the flour’s starch content is broken down and converted to glucose through the use of natural enzymes.
The wheat mash is turned into a low alcohol “bread wine” of 10% ABV. We use a custom designed “cascade” system.
To let the premium quality of our ingredients shine through, we use a single distillation process in columns made of steel and copper.
We add our spring water which is naturally filtered by limestone and then filtered by double reverse osmosis.
The blended spirit is passed once through a filter of cellulose and active carbon. This light “polishing” keeps the flavor in.
In addition to 550 quality checks, we perform a final tasting of every single batch before bottling.
From our founding to our future, our vodka legacy unfolds over decades of distinction. Take a tour through our timeline of product launches.
Entrepreneur Sidney Frank and Cellar Master François Thibault envisioned a whole new perspective on how vodka should be: not odorless and tasteless, but rich and full of character.
The first of our flavored vodkas came to life, which contain nothing but 100% natural essence of real fruit. L’Orange Flavored Vodka is made with essential oils from freshly picked oranges.
Our second flavor launched, made with essential oils of the fabled Menton lemons.
Our third and final mainstay, La Poire Flavored Vodka, launched five years after we first ventured into the category. It is made with essences of French Anjou pears.
Made with fresh fruit and botanical essences, this new product introduced a light, smooth taste in three delightful flavors: Strawberry & Lemongrass, White Peach & Rosemary and Watermelon & Basil.
We introduced the perfect martini cocktail — in a bottle. Expertly blended with GREY GOOSE® Vodka, premium dry French vermouth and enhanced with a dash of orange bitters.
